'Tis the Season for Sunglasses

Friday April 11, 2008
nullWith long, sundrenched summer days on the way, we're more likely to reach for our sunglasses now than during the gloomy days of winter. Aside from the UV protection that shades can offer, sunglasses make a major fashion statement. They've been associated with Hollywood glamour for years, and today's celebrities sport their sunglasses just as frequently as the old-time movie stars did fifty years ago.

Although vintage looks, such as retro cat's eyes, remain popular, the hottest sunglasses today are the big movie-star shades and aviators, but you can find such a variety of sizes, shapes, lens colors, and frame designs that you're sure to find a pair of sunglasses that's fashionable.

Designers have jumped into eyewear in a big way. If you like to wear designer logos, wearing designer sunglasses is one way to do it. No matter who your favorite designer is, you're likely to find signature eyewear. Designer shades vary widely in price from around $100 to $6000 or more. If you want the look without the label, check discount stores for budget options.

Although big glam sunglasses are trendy, they may be a bit overwhelming for those petite women who are shorter than 5'0" and also wear very small sizes in clothing. It's more important to wear sunglasses that complement the shape of your face and look good on you than it is to be trendy, so don't hesitate to select eyewear with smaller lenses if they suit you better than the bigger Hollywood styles.
