According to Vanity Fair, which named her to its International Best-Dressed List, Michelle Obama takes top fashion honors. Obama's June appearance on the View, where she wore an off-the-rack black and white floral dress by designer Donna Ricco, generated a lot of interest. Women don't often emulate fashions worn by wives of political figures, so it was especially notable that viewers flocked to stores to purchase the dress.
Despite the fashion buzz surrounding Obama, Cindy McCain, who has impeccable taste, could never be described as other than very well dressed. Although she's been criticized by Tim Gunn as having a style that's too up-tight, her dress--she favors suits--is completely appropriate for the wife of a presidential candidate. It should be noted that since Obama's naming to Vanity Fair's best dressed list, McCain has appeared more frequently in dresses than her usual suits.
Michelle Obama's casual style may appeal more to working moms while Cindy McCain's businesslike fashion style may appeal more to older professional women.
