For a lighter look than our chunky chain necklace, try this DIY chain and ribbon necklace. Like our chunky chain and ribbon necklace, this DIY chain and ribbon necklace will cost only a few dollars, and you can use materials from your local hardware store and Walmart. No special crafting or sewing skills are needed.

The only tool needed to make this necklace is a pair of scissors. Here are the materials needed to make the necklace pictured above:

  • 1 foot of black decorator chain
  • 1.5 yards of 7/8-inch black organdy ribbon
I paid 96 cents for the chain at Home Depot (they will cut the chain for you) and $1.99 for an 8-yard spool of organdy ribbon at Jo-Ann. So I have ribbon left over and spent less than $3 on materials.

To make the necklace, thread ribbon through one chain end, and hold it in place to decide how long you want it. After you've determined the length, tie both ribbon ends to the other end of the chain; then tie the ends in a bow, and trim the ribbons ends. Now you have your own chain and ribbon necklace for under $3.
