Rock a petite dress and sleek shoes in your 60s and beyond. The 60s and beyond is a time to go with the flow, accept your body as it is, and dress it accordingly. For most 60-somethings, that means wearing figure-sculpting shapewear under a dress, keeping the hem at or slightly below the knee, and selecting dresses with sleeves.

Although many older women avoid print dresses, it's not necessary to give up pattern, but if you like prints, make sure that the print design flatters you. Choosing a print with a diagonal or vertical orientation often works well for petite women in their 60s. Any display of cleavage should be subtle; otherwise it seems as though a 60-something woman is trying too hard to look younger.

At 60-something and especially beyond the 60s, women who have worn high heels all their lives may find that they're uncomfortable and even dangerous, so a lower heel may be in order. There are lovely sleek shoes available with 2" or lower heels, and if necessary, go with a flat shoe. If you can find a flat shoe with pointed toes, it will still help you look longer and leaner.

Petite Helen Mirren knows how to dress for her age. She doesn't have to wear sky-high heels because she gets a little lift from a lower heel height on her sleek pumps. In the past few years, I've never seen a picture of her when she hasn't covered her arms. For awards ceremonies, she sometimes wears lacy or sheer sleeves, but the sleeves or some kind of a wrap are always there. Always dressing in an age-appropriate manner, Helen Mirren, who never wears pants in public, stands as testimony to the timeless style of a short dress and sleek shoes for women of any age.
