Fashion Color Trends for Spring and Summer

White's right for spring and summer because it always has a crisp, new look, so appropriate to the season.

Petite star Sarah Jessica Parker will wear this Halston Heritage (she's now chief creative officer) white dress in her new movie Sex and the City 2, which will premiere in the U.S. on May 28. The shapely white dress is sure to be a hit with movie-goers, and it's available at Neiman Marcus in sizes 0 - 12.

Light sandy neutrals say spring this year more than ever, but you can't really go wrong with a pale taupe for spring and summer anyway. Adding a pair of light tan shoes to your wardrobe is a great way to bring a sandy pale tone into your wardrobe because they'll go with anything.

I like the textured snakeskin effect in this slingback pump with a pointed toe from Piperlime, and I think the style definitely qualifies as a best shoe style for petites.

Gray was big for fall and winter, and it's still right for spring, so don't put away any gray transitional pieces that you have yet. Gray's a good wardrobe staple because it's a neutral and will go with anything. Wear it as a silver metallic accessory or go classic with a tailored jacket.

Black never goes out of style.  It's a wardrobe staple for many petite women who like to create a monochromatic look in black in order to look taller. To update black for spring and summer, leave behind heavy winter fabrics and opt for cooler cotton or linen, or combine black with white for a fresher look.  Complete the look with sleek black pumps or sandals.

Whether it's blue denim in jeans or a jeans jacket or perhaps a blue top to go with the jeans, blue is a top color trend for this spring and summer.

Many designers included lavender or other pale pastels in their collections for spring and summer 2010.  Think of delicately tinted Easter egg colors, reminding us of spring.   Pale sandy tan or metallic accessories make for a winning combination with a lavender dress, such as this one available from Nordstrom in both petites and regular sizes.

Yellow makes for a nice color pop with trendy blue, whether it's navy or turquoise, and works well with other neutral colors. Sunny yellow looks right for warm spring and summer days too. Because a little bit of bright yellow can go a long way, and it's not a color everybody wears well, it's easy to adapt the trend by using it only for accessories--perhaps a bright yellow purse, such as the one shown here available from Nordstrom in the new mini crossbody style.
