Flowers, flowers everywhere! Fashion runways were blooming with beautiful floral prints when designers showed their spring/summer 2008 collections. Every summer is filled with flowers, but this year you’ll find them at your favorite retailers too. Learn some ways for petites to interpret this pretty fashion trend.
Tops
V-necklines and three-quarter sleeves flatter petites by creating a longer line and showing off small wrists, so they’re great features on a printed top. Try twinkling with sequins or beads accenting the flowers. If possible, try on the top to make sure that the placement of the motifs looks good on you.
Sleepwear
Select sleepwear if you want to wear a trendy style that you might not wear in public. If you love the floral prints but don’t want to add them to your daytime wardrobe, how about trying some blooming nightwear?
Swimwear
Swim separates work well for petites. Most swimwear fabric stretches quite a bit, so fitting shouldn’t be much of a problem. Adjustable straps help, but if necessary, you can shorten the straps or hem a tankini. If you’re going to wear floral swimwear, select a floral top and a bottom of a solid color that matches one of the colors in the print design.
Handbags
Even if you’re not sold on floral prints for garments, you can follow the season’s trend with a smashing flowered handbag. Make it a medium size, and avoid the huge bags, so that the bag won’t overwhelm your petite figure.
Shoes
For a touch of whimsy, try some 70s-inspired stylized flowers on shoes for casual wear. Or go more graceful with high heels in a more romantic floral design. Your shoes and bag don’t have to match!
Jewelry
Look for floral motifs on all kinds of jewelry this season from fine platinum and diamond pendants to inexpensive and over-the-top costume rings. No matter what your budget, you can wear flower-inspired jewelry. Just keep the jewelry in proper proportion, and you’ll have a trendy accent to accessorize your outfit.
