Lucille Ball, top comedienne of the 1950s, wore a polka dot blouse in a publicity photo for the 1954 movie The Long, Long Trailer. Together with her first husband, Cuban band leader Desi Arnez, Lucille Ball starred in the zany and long-running TV comedy series I Love Lucy in which she played a 1950s housewife. Typically a housewife of this era would have some polka dot clothing in her wardrobe because polka dots made a very popular fashion statement, especially for women's dresses and blouses during the 1950s.
